Welcome to Proven Woodworking Hand. By accessing or using this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
About This Site
Proven Woodworking Hand covers the hand tools a weekend woodworker actually reaches for: bevel-edge chisels, low-angle block planes, Japanese pull saws, diamond sharpening stones and combination squares. Every review, comparison and how-to comes from everyday projects in a one-bay garage shop, like cutting boards, picture frames, step stools and bookshelves.

Shop Safety
Sharp hand tools cut people as easily as they cut wood. Always keep both hands behind a chisel's cutting edge, clamp or vise the workpiece instead of holding it, and push the tool away from your body. Never try to catch a falling chisel or saw.
Pull saws have very fine, sharp teeth. Store them with the blade guard on or hung where nobody brushes past them, and keep fingers clear of the kerf when starting a cut.
Sharpening produces fine metal and abrasive particles. Wear safety glasses, keep the stone wet as the maker directs, and wash up afterward. Check that a stone sits flat and secure on a non-slip base before you start.
Wear eye protection when planing, chopping or sawing, keep the floor clear of offcuts, and keep tools out of reach of children. The guidance on this site is general information from hobby experience, not professional safety training. Follow each manufacturer's instructions.
